Small island populations in the Maldives have been relocated to other islands due to climate and infrastructural reasons throughout our history, deserting their ancestral island homes forever.
It is the responsibility of the government to ensure the peaceful integration of these populations into their new island home along with the existing population of the host island.
In almost all the cases, it has been seen that what followed was a period of chronic discontent and animosity between the two populations. Neither population were prepared for the scale of the intervention that took place.
When you displace a group of people from their home town, rendering it nothing more than a ghost town, you are erasing the only tangible link that ties together with their cultural practices and collective memory of the place. If a community loses their sense of place, they lose their communal identity.
While it is largely accepted that these moves are justified by environmental, economic, and infrastructural factors, displacing a community with no regard for instilling a sense of place in their new environment creates more problems than the ones it set out to solve.
If the authorities cannot listen what the people have to say, we will see history repeating itself and more populations facing countless difficulties during a very singular and delicate moment in their life.
ރާއްޖޭގެ ބައެއް ކުދި ރަށްތަކުގެ އާބާދީތަކަކީ ތިމާވެއްޓަށް ދިމާވެދާނެ ގުދުރަތީ ކާރިސާއެއް ނޫނީއުމްރާނީ ތަރައްގީއައް މަގު ފަހި ކޮށްދިނުމުގެގޮތުން ވަރަށް ކުރީއްސުރެވެސް ރަށްވެހިވެފައިވާ ރަށް ދޫކޮށް އެހެން ރަށްރަށަށް ބަދަލު ކޮއްފައިވާ އާބާދީ ތަކެއް. މިއާބާދީތައް އެއްފަސްކުރާ ރަށަށް ބަދަލުކޮށް އަހުލުވެރި ކުރުމަކީ ސަރުކާރުގެ ޒިންމާއެއް.
މިހެން އެއްފަސް ކޮށްފައި ހުރި ގިނަ އާބާދީތަށް ވަނީ ދިގު ދެމިގެންވާ ދަތިތަކާ އެއްކޮށް ދިރިއުޅެން ޖެހިފަ. އަދި ބޭރުން އަންނަ އާބާދީ އާއި ރަށުގައި ތިބި އާބާދީ އާ ދޭތެރޭ އެއްބައި ވަންތަކަން އުފެދޭލެއް މަދު އަދި ރައްޓެހިކަން އުފެދޭލެއްވެސް މަދު. މިއިން އެއްވެސް އާބާދީ އެއް ވަނީ މި ވަރުގެ ބަދަލަކަށް ސަރުކާރުން ތައްޔާރު ކޮށްދެވިފަ އެއް ނޫން.
ބަޔަކު އެބައެއްގެ ރަށުން ދާއިމީ ގޮތުގައި ބަދަލު ކުރާ އިރު - އަދި އެ ރަށް ފަޅު ރަށަކަށް ހަދާއިރު - އެ ފޮހެލެވެނީ އެބައެއްގެ ޒަމާނީ ހަނދާންތަކާ ސަގާފަތްތަކާ ފިކުރު ތަކާ އާބާދީ އެއްގެ ރޫހު ގުޅިފައިވާ ހަމައެކަނި އަސްލު ގުޅުން.
އެ ތިމާވެއްޓާއި ބިނާވެށި ގެއްލުމަކީ އެބައެއްގެ ރަށު ރޫހު ގެއްލެން ތަންދޭ ކަމެއް. އެހެންވީމަ ތަރައްގީއްށާއި ފަސޭހަ ހެޔޮ ދިރިއުޅުމަކަށް ކުރާ ބަދަލެއްގަ - އެއީ އަދި ގުދުރަތީ އަރައްކާ ތަކުން ސަލާމަތްކަން ލިބޭ ބަދަލެއްކަން ގިނަބަޔަކު ދެކުނު ކަމުގައި ވިޔަސް - އަލަށް އާބާދުވާ ރަށަށް އަހުލުވެރި ނުކޮށްދެވެންޔާ, އެއީ މިހާރު ތިމާމެންގެވެސް ރަށް ކަން އިހުސާސް ނުކުރެވެންޔާ, ހައްލުކުރަން އުޅޭ މައްސަލަ ތަކަށް ވުރެ ގިނަ މައްސަލަތަކާ ކުރިމަތި ލާން ޖެހޭނެ.
އެ ރަށެއްގެ މީހުންގެ އިހުސާސްތަކާ , ދައްކަން ހުރި ވާހަކަތައް ސަރުކާރުން އަޑުނާހާ ނަމަ މިފަދަ ކަންކަން ތަކުރާރު ވެ ހިނގާ ތަން ފެންނާނެ.
SINCE THEN
In September 2019, over 8 years later, the government finally announced that they would provide a compensation of over USD1.16 million for the families and that the reconstruction work that was commenced in June 2019 would be complete by September 2020. The compensation was calculated based only on the cost of utilities and rent, and did not take into consideration the experience many families had to go through by being forced to relocate away from their home islands and families. The families received the promised compensation and were handed the keys to their homes in late December 2020.
This documentary was screened at a session titled "Film for Accountability - The Story of 52 Families" at the Maldives Transparency & Anti-Corruption Conference 2020.

އަށް އަހަރު ދުވަސް ފަހުން, ސެޕްޓެމްބަރު 2019 ގައި ސަރުކާރުން މި އާއިލާތަކަށް 1.16 މިލިއަން ޑޮލަރުގެ ބަދަލު ދޭން އެއްބަސްވި. އަދި ޖޫން 2019 ގައި އަލުން ބިނާކުރަން ފެށިފައިވާ ގެތަށް ސެޕްޓެމްބަރު 2020 ގެ ނިޔަލަށް ނިމޭނެ ކަމަށް ބުނި. މި ބަދަލުގެ ގޮތުގައި ދީފައިވާ ފައިސާގެ އަދަދު ހިސާބުކޮށްފައި ވަނީ ކުއްޔާއި ފެނާއި ކަރަންޓުގެ ހަރަދު ތަކަށް އެކަނި ބިނާ ކޮށްފަ އަދި އެމީހުން ގެ އާއިލާތަކާ ރަށާ ދުރުގަ ރަށްވެހިވާން ޖެހުމުން ކުރި އިހުސާސް ތަކާ ކަޑަށްތުކުރި ދަތިތަކަށް ބިނާ ކޮށްފަ އެއް ނޫން. މި އާއިލާ ތަކަށް ފައިސާގެ ބަދަލާއި ގޭގެ ތަޅުދަނޑި ލިބިފައި ވަނެ 2020 ގެ ޑިސެމްބަރު މަހުގެ ފަހުކޮޅު.
މި ޑޮކިއުމެންޓަރީ ވަނީ މޯލްޑިްސް ޓްރާންސްޕޭރަންސީ އެންޑް އެންޓި ކޮރަޕްށަން ކޮންފަރަންސް 2020 ގައި ’ޖަވާބުދާރީ ކުރުވުމަށް ފިލުމު - 52 އާއިލާގެ ވާހަކަ’ ނަމުގެ ސެޝަން އެއްގައި ދައްކާލާފަ
